About/FAQ
What is Polygon Worlds?

Polygon Worlds is a web site for people interested in space and 3D graphics. It provides software that allows you to explore the planets in our solar system. The site focuses on Mars because NASA recently released high resolution topographic data collected by the Mars Global Surveyor. This data allowed me to create an accurate computer model of the planet.

This site can be accessed from any of the following URLs:

www.polygonworlds.com, www.mars3d.com and www.mars3d.co.uk.

Who is Polygon Worlds?

Polygon Worlds is run by me, Adrian Lark, a freelance programmer from London, UK. I have created this website and all of its content.

Can I publish the images/software?

Everything on this site is currently free, there is no charge for the software or images. If you publish/distribute anything please notify me and provide a link to this web site.

Why is there no software for the Moon?

The only height data available for the moon was collected by the Clementine spacecraft and does not have sufficient resolution to be worth using.

Where did you get high resolution Mars data from?

The Mars data can be downloaded from here. I downloaded all the raw MOLA data (many gigabytes) and processed it into gridded datasets with resolutions up to 250m. The highest resolution dataset NASA has made available is 1km. You can read more about the Mars MOLA data here.
