The 'Profiles' are cross
sections of Mars drawn to scale. They will give you
some idea of the gradients of various features.
The 'Area Topology Map'
is a colour height map showing the profile's surrounding
area as viewed from above, the profile is represented
by a blue line.
The
'Data Profile' image allows you to analyse gradients
in more detail. To use it load the image into a paint
package. Select the colour finder tool and move it
over the pixel you want to know the height for (Each
vertical line represents a MOLA laser reading). Multiply
the red value by 256 and add the green value (the
blue value will always be zero). then subtract 10,000.
The resulting number is the recorded MOLA height.
Using the height and average distance between MOLA
measurements you can calculate gradients accurately.
This
